Back in 1929 The Columbia Record came up with a contest to promote new subscriptions to the newspaper. The contest consisted of nominating someone in your area, there were three area which cover the newspaper's territory. Richland County was in District 3, and the one name I found listed as being nominated was Evelyn Smith from Dentsville.
Points were given to the person being nominated depending on the type of the subscription being ordered. There was a weekly, monthly, Six months, Yearly, etc. At the end of the contest the person receiving the highest point total overall (covering all three districts) would get the Grand Prize, Second and Third Highest would be awarded prizes.

Second Highest Point Total received a $1,800.00 Chrysler "Blue Heaven" Roadster
Third Highest Point Total Received a $1,435.00 Graham-Paige Sedan
After the top three prizes were awarded to the overall winners the next prizes were awarded to each of the three districts with the top six people from each district being awarded prizes.
