In October of 1922, a 7-year-old boy named Morris Tillman LaGrand was hit by a car while crossing the road from a store to his family’s car. The family was on their way to the state fair when they decided to stop and purchase a few things in a Dentsville shop; the child, unbeknownst to his mother, followed his father to the store while the rest of the family waited in the car. According to his father, he had only left the store a few seconds being struck by an oncoming vehicle. A passing motorist rushed the boy to the hospital, and the parents followed when they learned of the accident soon after. At the hospital, an x-ray was made and no serious injuries or fractures were found.
