In June of 1936, a troop of thirteen Girl Scouts arrived at a lakeside cabin about a fourth of a mile from the Dentsville schoolhouse. Present in the group were: Mildred Ann Boney, Parlea Carns, Katherine Cooper, Edna Earl Wells, Hilda Smith, Marjorie Shull, Cornelia Gladen, Geneva McFarland, Lois Ewart, Lona Cooper, Mary Helen Conder, Cleo Ross, and Avis Tucker. Arriving with them were Alice Boney and Frances McSwain, two of the leaders.
The girls arrived at the cabin on June 3rd for a short camping trip. According to the group’s summary, the campsite was beautiful and restful, surrounded by shady trees, hiking trails, and soft grass that was luxurious to lie in and watch the sunset. The birds sang at all hours and the lake, which was owned by M.C. Tucker at the time, was allowed for use as often as the group liked.
Standing on he front porch you could see the sparkling lake which was about 100 yards from the cabin. After a quick swim the girls had a picnic supper. The next day the girls followed their schedule taking a two mile hike to Boyden Arbor where they enjoyed a refreshing swim.
