Dentsville Lunch Room

During a PTA meeting in December 1930 of the Dentsville parents and teachers it came to their attention that Dentsville School lacked any sort of lunch room and thus were not adequately providing the food necessary for the students on an everyday basis.

Parents and teachers had found that most of the students were either getting very little food or no food at all. The PTA came to the decision that the students were no receiving the needed nourishment to attend school on a daily basis and there was a need for a lunch room on school grounds.

Further discussion about providing better nourishment to the students brought about the decision to build a small lunch room and to have the community provide each student with the food needed. Every student would get a hot lunch along with milk and fresh fruit every day of school.

It was decided that a small building be constructed to house the lunch room. It did not take long for the word to spread for building supplies and food supplies. Simon Faust who owned businesses around the Dentsville community furnished the lumber for the building, John Conder volunteered to build the structure and Mrs. J.A. Riley furnished the milk. Many other Dentsville residents furnished food, fresh fruit, napkins, and utensils.

Dentsville School brought the community together and as usual the citizens of Dentsville were there to help those in need.
