I was just talking to my cousin yesterday and the conversation came up about our childhood memories. The first thing I remembered was going to Dentsville High football games on Friday nights (home games) when I was 10 years old. My aunt (Sandra Rabon 1968 Graduate) would get me a ticket when she went to school that Friday and I would be waiting at the door for her to get home. As soon as she walked in I could see she had the ticker and the little ribbon that said "Go Cougars" and of course I had to wear it on my shirt.
When it was time for me to head to the game I would walk down Parklane Road (yes, all alone) and would get more excited to make it to the football field. I could hear the band and the closer I got, you could hear the cheerleaders and as I walked through the gate I could see the players on the field. As a 10 year old this was like watching the Super Bowl. I was here to watch the Cougars play and it didn't matter if the team lost, I was her to watch my football heroes. I can still remember stanbding by the fence at about the 10 yard line when one of the Cougar players got a cramp in his leg, (which I learned later are painful) and he was is great pain.
I saw him stand up and walk the cramp off which had me thinking this player was tough if he could go through that and able to continue to play. That site had me convinced, these Cougars were the best and toughest football players in the state.
I love to think back during those Friday nights, not only was I able to watch the Cougars play I was able to go behind the home bleachers and throw the football with friends at halftime. No matter how old I get those memories bring back the fun time in my life.
I hope when you read "Heart of Dentsville" it will bring back the fun times in your life.
