Writer's picture: Dentsville HistoricalDentsville Historical

Back on December 8, 1950 "The State Newspaper" ran an article about two scouts, J.D. Dabbs and Buddy Pedersen that put out a fire in some woods between Two Notch Road and what is now known as Parklane Road.

The two boys were walking through the woods, by Buddy Pedersen account he stated that "we always walked through those woods," that particular day from Mr. Pedersen's memory he and J.D. Dabbs were walking through the woods as usual when they noticed 3 boys starting a fire and when the boys saw them they took off.

Without y hesitation Buddy and J.D. extinguished the fire saving a great deal of damage to the property which was owned by Miss. Janie Dent. Buddy Pedersen and J.D. Dabbs were a part of Troop 304, the boys were credited with saving at leat 300 acres of wooded land in Dentsville.

The boy's actions were brought to the attention of Boy Scout Executive Roscoe Stevens by L.W. Smith. In a letter to Mr. Steven written by Mr. Smith, he stated that if it had not been for the boy's actions not only would the woods on Miss. Dent's property been destroyed the fire may have spread and destroyed additional woods in the area off Two Notch and State Park Road (Parklane Rd.).
