On November 20, 1916, 24-year-old S.T. Faust committed suicide in his Dentsville home. He left behind six siblings - three brothers and three sisters - and a father, who lived in the Brookland section of Columbia.
It was unknown what compelled Faust to take his own life, as he had spoken with family members shortly before his death and was apparently in a cheerful, carefree mood. He shot himself in the chest a short time later, having placed the stock end of the gun on the hearth and the other end to his heart. It was reported that he used a fiddle bow to pull the trigger. After viewing the body, Coroner J. A. Scott stated that an inquest was unnecessary.
